This is really exciting, Mozilla is one of the few companies I trust with something like this. That being said, many initiatives spearheaded by the Mozilla foundation end up in failure, often because of the lack of funding. I hope that the community can help get the ball rolling on this, even if Mozilla is not ultimately there at the finish line.

Open source, non profit ai is the only one I would consider using in some form. I really hope this works out, I am tired of capitalism taking every utopian idea and turning it into a cynical for profit farce.

Even the whole current trend of ai is a sign of this, before when someone spoke of ai it was to take over humanity’s menial and laborious tasks so the people would be free to pursue their passions.

Now every Corp tries to create ai to do creative work, so the people have more time for menial labor and the revolutionary, outrageous, thought and change inducing aspect of creative work is wholly neutered and commercialized by the system.

Very well said all around. I am not bullish on the potential of the generative “AI” stuff we’re seeing in general these days, but if someone is going to find utility for this tech it’s not going to be the corporations that have been siphoning off our sanity the past few years.
