Dirk is my all time favourite player and he was the pioneer of euro ball in the NBA. But I think he’s probably been bumped down to 4 behind jokic giannis and luka.
The pioneers of euro ball were Sabonis, Peja and Kukoc. That is what started making GMs think that there are future stars in the pipeline. Also remember Dirk got traded for Robert “Tractor” Traylor.
This makes Dirk like the proof of concept of what the pioneers showed the league. After Dirk the league and the coaches stopped trying to pigeon hole the european players into something they are not and let them play their style which is better anyways. Imagine Andrey Kirilenko or Rudy Fernandez in this modern game? They had to put up with so much idiocy from their coaches who wanted them to play like garbage players who would jump high, lift weights but could not dribble or shoot to save their lives.
