I just got these delivered today after waiting patiently for 2 weeks. First of all these are some sexy looking cans… Secondly, these are truly an enjoyable listen. Coming from the 990 DT’s, these are pretty refreshing. They’re also very very comfortable, but I am aware that the pads wear out after about a year so I’ll have to grab another pair. But overall, probably the best $350 I’ve ever spent.
$350? You including the amp with that price? Or maybe it’s international.
It’s in AUD, and he paid $120 in shipping
$350??
Welcome home papi.
If interested try Oratory1990’s EQ preset. Doubles the audio quality imo.
Oratory1990’s EQ preset
What EQ are those Oratory settings for? I’m using Equalizer APO and don’t see the “Filter type”, “Q-Factor” or “BW”
I have the “Frequency” and “Gain” set, but that’s all
I use his harmon preset (tweaked to my specific liking) for my Phillips x2hr. It takes a decent headphone to a whole nother level.
Without it I am not sure I would even keep them, with that eq profile they are my go to for any heavy music and known multiple pads and backup headphones.
Sometimes it’s incredible how much eq can change a can.
For pads I do recommend the suede zmf 6xx pads they are pricey but I’ve had mine for 7 months now and they have been great
Enjoy! I got the leather pads from drop (sacrilege I know) and they definitely sound better to me with slight improvement in lower end. But the main thing is that they feel more premium which I really like.
Dumb question how do these stack up to 660s2? I currently have 598sr and looking for an upgrade
I have both the 6XX and the 660S2. The 660S2 has far better imaging and bass. The 3D layering is fantastic. The bass is quick and deep, textured, detailed, and revealing. On Beck’s “Loser” I always heard a slurring bass line on my 6XX. On the 660S2, I can make out the individual notes. The lead vocals on the 6XX stand out beautifully from the rest of the music, which tends to blend together into one of 3 blobs. On the 660S2, each and every voice and instrument is completely separated from the rest, and the circle of sound around your head is complete and accurate.
The 6XX is more relaxing, more beautiful, with slightly better mids. It is more natural and more neutral. The 660S2 is more V-shaped and energetic. They’re both great with classical, jazz, and classic rock. The 660S2 adds pop music to that. Neither is ideal for hip-hop or edm, or anything that requires a bass cannon that can throw 20Hz hits at you. The 660S2 is reliably good down to 30Hz. Stand up bass viols sound natural, not like the lowest notes are accentuated. The 6XX is reliably good down to 40-50Hz.
I use the 6XX for quiet background music while I’m working or on reddit. I use the 660S2 for critical listening. The 6XX is never quite breath-taking, whereas the 660S2 sometimes is-- even at low volume. The 6XX is always makes comfy sounds. The 660S2 can be distractingly good.
Wow this was quite detailed. I would have loved to grab a pair of 660S2 because their sound signature sounds awesome, but I just couldn’t pass up on the 6xx’s value. Maybe in the future I’ll get a pair
Any recommendations for more detailed bass music (20hz) listening? I tried the 6xx recently and loved them, but I also lack a real frame of reference.
Damn this making me save up for a 660s2. Just saved enough for a 660s 🤣
Buy or print yourself a capra strap if you can!
Same headphones and keyboard as you, at least if you have reds in that lol. They both sound great though
HD6XX and other 600-series headphones are some of the easiest to recommend because they make for such a good reference and are so easy to listen to. I wouldn’t say that 6XX performs impressively with everything, but for listening vocals and acoustic instruments, they are wonderful.
Idk why but I can’t stand mine. I had the 569 and loved them. Saw these ones get talked up when my old ones died and regret it. Idk if open back just ain’t it for me or what. The amount of stuff I can hear on my 7hz compared to these is wild.
For me, about six months in the pads are way more comfortable than new. They’re a little tough at first, especially with glasses. They soften up over time. A little too quickly for some I surmise.
I buy new pads for my Senns every January. There’s always an improvement in bass.
What pads do you usually go with?
