Yeah, and there’s a a lot of games on Steam that would never get approved by a publisher, especially the smallest of indie games. Besides, if you have the means to get a finished game on Steam without a publisher, you get to keep all revenue to yourself instead of losing ~50% to a publisher.

+1 for Metro Exodus. I’m a little surprised that it comes up in discussions like this so rarely. I’m a huge fan of post-apocalyptic settings so I might be biased, but it’s easily one of my favorite games ever.
I’ve been doing this with games and movies for years. It’s so much fun to go into something blind with zero expectations, makes the whole experience a lot more exciting.
