As of right now I think it makes sense to edit an article headline to get to the main point when the real title is trying to be coy like that. Obviously should try to not editorialize, but a lot of headlines really need to cut to the chase instead of being as clickbaity as they are.

I think you’re mixing up Gen x and Gen z. The video states that it was people who were in their 20s in the 90s. That’s mostly gen x

TL;DW Lead makes you lose intelligence and your life more difficult. Gen X got the worst of it. And yes it’s backed up with research and was largely caused by capitalism.

I’m going to lightly disagree with most of the comments in this post. The states (likely the world) is getting ready for a big transition. I don’t think that’s something that can (or should tbh) be ignored. As in, cutting yourself off from the news completely isn’t a realistic way to get closer to that peace you’re looking for. I think the way to keep the dread from consuming you is to know that you’re doing your part in countering bad actors.

That doesn’t mean you have to become a freedom fighter or a protest organizer. I like what the guy with the goats was talking about in connecting with his community. Or you can volunteer with an organization that brings food to the homeless or whatever. Maybe start a community garden (or edible forest). Something big or small that helps you feel you’re making the world a better place even just in your own little piece of it, even if you limit to a day or two each week.

Then the bad news becomes a little easier to cope with. Because even though you’re never going fix the world by yourself (that can only happen collectively), at least you know you’re doing what you can to help. At least for me, that helps the noise quiet down enough to take the time to get lost in a book or something.

Analyze after the fact. I just try to convince myself I’m wrong about things and hopefully I’m not successful the majority of the time. Think about any specific situation I feel I need to, and compare how I acted with how I would want to act. It’s an active maintenance process that means hopefully i have more interactions that line up with what’s desired. More than if I just allowed myself to act entirely on instinct

Plenty of good real solutions in the comments here. My creative solution is to add a feature to everyone’s phone that automatically will FaceTime them with someone also on their phone in the area. You can’t turn it off, you can only add people to your default list. No guarantee they’re who you connect to though.
