The democratic party is a completely different discussion. Dems didn’t lose because they’re too nice to play dirty, they lost because they couldn’t even pretend to give a shit about regular folk and the problems that face them. They have no morals or convictions and are perfectly happy letting the republicans win if the alternative means fighting against corporate interests.

This is attitude is basically what I’m talking about. You will not convince people by patronizing them, or treating them like children. You have to treat them with respect, actually listen to their problems, and try to explain how leftist policies can solve those problems, while someone like Trump (or even Harris) cannot.

Many right leaning voters view liberals and leftists as academic elitists who have no concept of what their lives are like, and in many ways they are right. Treating them like children will just reinforce that belief and push them further to the right.

Not everyone can be convinced, but if we want to stop this horrific slide towards fascism we need to get serious about educating the masses on leftist beliefs and deprogram all the fascist neo-liberal propaganda they’ve been fed all their lives.

Not too long ago I was a neo-liberal, and I sure as hell didn’t change my perspective by reading patronizing comments online. I happened to start watching a black youtube creator (FD signifier) who explains concepts like white supremacy, the patriarchy, and capitalism without being hostile or patronizing to viewers who disagree with him. He gave me a way out of that line of thinking that minimized my feelings of shame from having been so ignorant.

I’m not going to pretend to know what the average person should do to combat misinformation but I can tell you with certainty that treating people who disagree with you like children, or patronizing them in any way is simply not an effective at changing their minds.

By all means make fun of trump, fascists, etc, but if you’re not prepared to calmly explain why these people are bad, people will just think you’re saying it because you want “your team” to win.

I’m by no means an apple fan boy (I only have an air) but the apple m processors are getting faster every gen. My m1 air is fast, has a nice design, great battery life, nice screen, etc. idk what else I would want in a laptop. Obviously not a cheap but it should last me a lot longer than whatever pc I would have gotten for half the price.

I don’t follow the laptop industry closely though so maybe I’m being ripped off without realizing it?

I had a lot of shitty views indoctrinated into me during my upbringing and it’s taken me years of self work and reflection to become the leftist I am today. I don’t think he actually has as much power as people are implying. I think the reason he was able to influence this election was because most undecided voters didn’t like either candidate very much, and so having someone like Joe Rogan sit down with Trump and humanize him was something that probably had a noticeable effect.

I think that if Harris had actually run a campaign that actually addressed the needs of the average person she would’ve won easily and we’d be laughing at the fact that Trump was so desperate for votes he went on Joe Rogan.

Absolutely. Bernie Sanders is incredibly popular (on both sides) and Joe Rogan actually endorsed him in 2020. All this talk about Joe Rogan winning the election for republicans is hilarious when you think about it.

A third party is not realistic. Pressuring the democratic party is hard, but it’s not impossible. They caved to pressure and swapped out Biden.

Joe Rogan endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2020(or 2022?).

Many of Trump supporters just want their lives to get better. They may be incapable of identifying that Trump is a charlatan, but they aren’t incapable of seeing someone like Bernie Sanders and realizing he genuinely has their best interests in mind. They may be deluded in thinking the Republican party represents their interest, but they are correct in identifying that the democrats represent corporate interests.

Don’t get me wrong, many of these people are xenophobic and republican ideology exploits and feeds that.

My point is that many these people can be swayed and will vote for a candidate like Bernie Sanders or AOC. Someone who actually has their best interests in mind. Someone who, like Bernie Sanders, promises to fight against corporate interests, promises health care for everyone, and promises a livable wage. Most of all, someone who acknowledges that shit is fucked up right now and needs to change. Harris’ campaign did none of that.

The democratic/liberal strategy of “Trump is a fascist, vote for us” will never work. It didn’t work in 2016 and it didn’t work in 2024. Making fun of Trumpers is not an effective strategy for achieving progress, it’s counter productive. You are signalling to them that you like things the way they are and that you don’t give a shit about their material needs. You’re confirming their belief that liberals are out of touch elites (which honestly I agree with).

If democrats/liberals want to win in 2028 they need to stop this shit ASAP. There is no counter propaganda. When Trump lied and said that millions of migrants are coming over the border and committing crimes, the democrats turned around and tried to pass a republican border bill.

They could have counter messaged about how 1. millions were not coming across and 2. illegal immigrants are overwhelmingly just regular people who pay taxes and commit less crimes on average than citizens.

Can we please start holding the democrats responsible for their failures instead of blaming literally everything else.

I’ve lived am extremely privileged life and have only just started engaging with this stuff but I’m feeling pretty hopeless. The Libs are firmly neo-liberal, the NDP don’t seem capable of any sort of positive messaging, and the Cons have nosedived into neo-nazism.

Local advocacy and education seems like the only way forward for progressive thinkers.

The only candidate in this election with a positive approval rating was the progressive guy (Tim Walz). Bernie Sanders and AOC are two of the most popular politicians around right now and both of them are very progressive. Obama won a historic election by running a progressive campaign. Andy Beshear won the gubernatorial election in fucking Kentucky with a pro-trans progressive message and is an extremely popular governor.

Liberals refuse to even pay lip service to the idea that regular people support progressive policy.
