6·29 days agoThat’s my method. My new tv has never known the internet and never will. USB updates are still available and very simple to install. AppleTV handles the apps the tv just displays them.

493·1 month agoWhoa, 200 meters is a close call for sure!
On a related topic, SpaceX is littering the low earth orbit space in a major way. From the link above:
There are approximately 12,000 active satellites now in LEO space, with probably 8,000 operated by Starlink.
Get off our LEO Elon! <shakes fist in air>

Technology@lemmy.world•Disney+ cancellation page crashes as customers rush to quit after Kimmel suspensionEnglish
49·4 months agoThat’s when you call your credit card company to let them know you want to cancel payment but the website isn’t allowing at this time.
Politely request cancellation of any automated payments going forward and if one went through recently see if it’s possible to initiate a charge back. Not sure if a charge back would work in this situation but worth a try.

movies@piefed.social•Paris DVD rental store in last stand against streaming giants
2·4 months agoWhat a cool place! I miss these stores and wish one was near me.
There’s no clear answer to save such a place. I don’t know much about the city but it’s likely in an accessible area so moving to a less expensive part of Paris or just outside of the city would help rent but the foot traffic would likely drop.
As much of an uphill battle it is for these stores I’m hoping for a positive outcome for them.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Proton Mail Suspended Journalist Accounts At Request Of Cybersecurity AgencyEnglish
302·4 months agoImportant details from the Reddit comment:
Hi everyone,
No, Proton did not knowingly block journalists’ email accounts. Our support for journalists and those working in the public interest has been demonstrated time and again through actions, not just words.
In this case, we were alerted by a CERT that certain accounts were being misused by hackers in violation of Proton’s Terms of Service. This led to a cluster of accounts being disabled.
Because of our zero-access architecture, we cannot see the content of accounts and therefore cannot always know when anti-abuse measures may inadvertently affect legitimate activism.
Our team has reviewed these cases individually to determine if any can be restored. We have now reinstated 2 accounts, but there are other accounts we cannot reinstate due to clear ToS violations.
Regarding Phrack’s claim on contacting our legal team 8 times: this is not true. We have only received two emails to our legal team inbox, last one on Sep 6 with a 48-hour deadline. This is unrealistic for a company the size of Proton, especially since the message was sent to our legal team inbox on a Saturday, rather than through the proper customer support channels.
The situation has unfortunately been blown out of proportion without giving us a fair chance to respond to the initial outreach.
Wishing you well @ernest@kbin.social

7·5 months agoSome fun stuff there.
The Golden Child is one I might rewatch. It’s been a while but I remember something about people eating bloody oatmeal and falling under a trance, like in The Temple of Doom.
The last time I watched FireWalker was decades ago so all I can say is I remember younger me liking it.
Romancing the Stone is one of the more well known and higher quality movies of this bunch.

3·5 months agoLet’s not forget his high achievement of winning a Golden Razzie award for his terrible performance as….himself. Yes, he achieved worst supporting actor playing himself. Not only that the movie is a perverted B- dumpster fire.
Just to be clear, I’m not saying this is anywhere near as serious compared to the points you’ve made. Those are truly harmful things done to others. To know he was in such a low ranked movie and had the worst performance of everyone in it while trying to portray himself brings a bit of joy.
