On one hand, we’re quite socialist compared to the states. On the other hand, I think the last time we as a country could be said to be proud of what socialist things we do have is near a century ago.

Because checking a billion proteins for the shape we want is a hardware problem, and the hardware for doing that is very slow and expensive. If we can fold proteins using software, we can try billions of proteins far faster and cheaper. We could probably work backwards too, reducing the search space from billions to millions.

We are too fucking close to falling in the same hole. We’ve been importing US politics on a 5-10 year delay for 60 years, and I hope the nightmare below the 49th finally makes enough of us choose a different path.

A lot of the NDP voters I know both voted Liberal this election and regret doing that. The best part of this seems to be that the NDP seems to have woken up and started to be a party again.

Increasing efficiency isn’t capitalism; letting those with capital decide is capitalism. If you exclude capital and just do the thing directly, you’re resisting capitalism.

Doing political things, like attending town hall meetings or party fundraisers, could count for tax rebates like donations do, and a certain amount of days off work each year could be required to be available for such things.

As it is, the numbers are losing their meaning. Today, in the same time zone, sunrise could be at 4, or 5:30. In another time zone, 7:04 & 5:22. Our experiences of time are not the same.
