I live in the US and I strongly object to microwaving water. But I am also /really/ into tea so I avoid tea bags as much as possible.

Part of the cultural difference is that US is largely 110 and the UK is 220. It’s faster and easier to use an electric kettle. In the US, the microwave heats up the water “faster” vs the stove or an electric kettle

Oh I’m not contesting our food standards. I just thought the FDA was the gold standards for drug approval. The big issue with American food standards, IMO, is it operates on “prove this is unsuitable for consumption”, instead of the safer method of “prove this is suitable for consumption”

I still use Reddit every now and again for aviation and a mobile game (where there is an official company presence). Most of the discourse is genuine.

Now some of the more general subreddits, that’s garbage.

I get my news and politics from Lemmy now and, if anything, the experience is better. In fact, I seem to be more up to date on Canadian news.

While I also hate ads and tracking, there have always been ads in the paper. Making news is not a free service.

Part of the reason people flock to Fox News is because it’s specifically not paywalled.
