Americans sell themselves as these rugged individuals who won’t be easily swayed but then turn out to be absolute pussies when it comes to jokes foreign to them.
What a bizarre take.

I don’t think urbanised is a good word to describe that alienation. The urbanism movement has as one of its key goals the creation of more vibrant local communities. It’s more like suburbanism.
Urbanized is a great word to describe that alienation. The urbanism movement is trying to create more vibrant urban communities because of the fact that urban environments are inherently alienating, even if you ignore cars entirely. This is why your original comment was dumb. You are naively fixated on car culture as the source of all social alienation, to the extent of implying that cities would be egalitarian utopias if not for cars.
You’re the one who’s been talking around me this entire time, I’ve been making my points very clearly but you’re talking past me because you don’t want to admit you were somewhat mistaken.
the biggest thing that hurts local community feeling is car-dependent infrastructure.
No. Cities are hubs of specialization, which breeds inequality, which breeds resentment, which breeds alienation. No cars required. Have you ever read a Dickens novel? You think life in 1800s London was all hunky-dory because of the lack of highways and non-Euclidean zoning laws? Like what dude?
Did you forget to respond to my point? Are you suggesting that cities were happy, egalitarian communes prior to the invention of the automobile? Slums and tenement housing would seem to indicate otherwise.
Highways were constructed because it provided an economic advantage to do so. A city without car infrastructure is not economically viable. With more advanced transportation and communication technology, we will eventually supercede the automobile, but to delude yourself into thinking that it was an arbitrary development is silly. There are many negative externalities caused by automobiles, just as there are many negative externalities caused by electricity. That doesn’t negate the advantages.
But regardless, the social dynamics of cities predate such problems; even if we reverted to a pre-car culture cities would still be lonely, violent places for some. They would still be the engines of inequality and hierarchy, because they are the hubs of the economic system.
Yea I hear you. At first I thought the Commanders name was lame but when I realized people were calling them the Commies I thought it was kinda funny
Suburbia came into being as a result of urban dysfunction. Cities have existed and had problems since long before cars were invented. People nowadays really love to blame everything on cars lmao, if only it were that simple
The urbanism movement exists to help remedy some of the downsides of urban living. One of which is social alienation and isolation as a result of the scale and diversity of cities.
I definitely have to admit some pro JFK bias as an Irish American 😅
But I obviously also have rationales for why I think he was a great president. Foremost among them is that I feel he was a truly independent political force that was beholden neither to his party nor to external interests. His popularity, wealth, and personal relationship with the American people gave him the potential to do radical things against the wishes of the entrenched oligarchy, which is possibly why he was assassinated. He demonstrated a willingness and a capacity to upend the established order.
William Henry Harrison is often considered among the worst for the simple reason that he did die. Put on a coat mah boi, we didn’t elect your ass to get a cold and die instantly.
because lemm.ee is still federated with both hexbear and 'grad and .world and the more pro western servers which helps me train my critical thinking and arguing
I wish hexbear was more into debating and less into memeing. I find that they tend to run away from serious debate and prefer to troll. Honestly lemmygrad has seemed less annoying to me than hexbear lately because they seem more likely to take things seriously and make legitimate arguments. I don’t see too much of them because I’m usually on my main account and sjw blocks them.
I use my account at lemmy.myserv.one in a similar way to your lemm.ee account, but since I’m an admin here I end up spending way more time on this account.
I was playing against Daniels in fantasy. 5 mins to go in the 4th quarter he had like 10 points. Whew, I’m in good shape, playoffs here we come.
I check back 20 mins later and he’s done this 😱
200 passing yards, 2 TDs, the 2pt conversion, and 30 rushing yards on top. In four minutes of game time.
RIP my sweet prince. I never stopped rooting for you. Classy final speech too, took responsibility and was grateful for the opportunity he was given. Great dude, average NFL QB. In a good offensive system he could have some success going forward.
Probably. You gotta figure the previous regimes (Judge, Shurmur, McAdoo 🤮) have usually been given two years before getting fired, Daboll/Schoen are midway through their third year and the team has steadily gotten worse. Don’t think you can keep them next year, assuming they finish 4-13 or something. The few decent players on this team are fed up with losing.
Yeah he’s apparently looking to go to a contender as a backup. He will win games if given a chance with a competent offense around him.
But it was never going to happen on the Giants, the team is too much of a mess at this point.
JFK would have been top 5 if he hadn’t been gunned down 2 years into his presidency 😭
I prefer talking about the best, talking about the worst just makes me depressed.
Basically we were in the process of having a discussion about defederating them, and then they blocked us before we could have a vote in c/Agora.
So it seemed like the problem was solved. But the fact that they don’t appear on our blocklist has been misleading to others, so I think it’s better to make it official.
For the record, I just added hexbear to the sjw blocklist.
They use an allowlist and they previously removed us from it, so we were effectively defederated already for most of the past year. But it seems that they may have refederated with us silently within the past couple weeks. I’m not exactly sure.
Anyway, I’ve heard this rumor about us still being federated with hexbear a few times, so I decided to clarify the situation.
You’ll have to message the community mods for clarification. They’re the ones who created and maintain the community, so they get to decide who gets banned and why.
Getting banned for a comment in another community is certainly possible, depending on what you said. I don’t necessarily agree with that moderation style and it doesn’t represent most communities on SJW, but that particular community tends to attract some heavy trolling, so I can understand if they’re a bit trigger-happy on the ban hammer.
I just looked at your modlog history and it could be for multiple reasons. You have used some offensive language in the past. That probably has something to do with it.
Which community?
Any particular reason?
