This is the way. The main reason I don’t do something like that is results are open to everyone in management and since I know I can work with my manager I prefer to handle issues one on one.

If my manager refused to work with me, or the issue was a company wide thing, then I would give an actionable response.

I write proposals for improvements and they’ve been so well received because I present each one with an issue statement, explanation, and actionable steps to resolve the issue. Now I’m helping coworkers with ideas on how to improve and that’s something I try to reinforce, explain the issue and how it affects the company and employees, then give a way to correct the issue. If you just say here’s a problem, now fix it, you’ll get no where.

I love these, keeps the toxic people out of management in my company. We have a yearly employee survey and the toxic people always complain about everything and everyone. They think it’s anonymous even though you have to click a link that’s emailed to you then login to the survey with your employee ID and password. Yeah dipshit it’s anonymous even though you just gave them your ID to be able to take the survey.

Me, 5 stars across the board and no additional comments. Any issues I have I take up with my manager directly and he can handle it from there with the right people.

During lockdown we were getting slammed and I was working 10 - 11 hour shifts and was finishing all my podcasts and had run out of audiobooks. So just needing something to listen to while I worked I gave his show a shot. Listened to two episodes and then signed up for Tidal and just started listening to music instead.

Around 2005 my dad was working for a small air cargo company, the owner did him a favor and gave me a part time job in the evening while I was going to the local community college. Dad did double duty as accounting and HR and when I hired in I had to meet with him to go over the company’s employee handbook.

We went over bit by bit until I asked who would do that? to one of the items. He looked me straight in the eyes and said each of these rules come from actual incidents. He then calmly grabbed a tab and flipped to a section and said and we call this chapter Dennis.

Fun fact 20 years later and Dennis is the chief pilot of the company and one of only two people there I would blindly get in a plane with.

  • Yep, separate machines is the way.

My employer provides all of us with laptops for remote work, and management with cell phones. Some of these people (managers included) use the laptop as their sole computer for everything, and most of management takes advantage of the fact that if you port your phone number to the company phone you can switch between profiles and have the company pay the phone bill.

I look at these people and just marvel at their stupidity. My work laptop is on a segregated network and shut down when not in use. And if it goes like it looks like it’s going, when I get a manager cell phone, I’ll be keeping my personal phone separate. Keep’em separate always.

  • I worked at KFC in high school, the girl who ran the register got that so many times she finally snapped and would respond to instance of this lame joke in a totally monotone voice while looking them right in the eyes “oh yeah, never heard that one before, ha…ha…ha” she got so many complaints filed against her it was hilarious.

  • Yep, years ago there was a massive jackpot for mega millions or Powerball, I can’t remember. I was hanging out with a buddy and we got to talking about what we’d do if we won. Of course we joked about all the stupid things we’d do, but after that night the thought stayed with me and I’ve put a lot of thought into it.

After years of thinking about it I realized that when I take vacation from work, I stay home but I work on projects I care about. Homelab, open source, animal welfare, ect. I have severe ADHD and can’t stand just laying around, so I know I wouldn’t stop working, I’d just stop working to live.

I even spent one weekend researching and developing a plan for if I actually won and put it all in a folder so I can just open the doc and see my plan, then take that an the spreadsheets to the lawyers, asset manager, and CPA, and protect myself and the money. Definitely not a obsessive ADHD weekend…lol.

As it stands right now I’d take $5 million and live off dividends, each parent gets $5 million, and anything left over goes into a nonprofit foundation I would set up to fund all the open source and nonprofit projects I care about.

When people ask me why I waste money on the lottery, I just say I don’t want the money to be rich, I want the money to be free. Also I only spend $12 a week to play, the only time I buy extra tickets is if I win a few bucks on a ticket, then I just cash it in for some extra draws.

  • Just pick one, burn the ISO to a USB stick and run a live version. When your done checking it out, shut down, unplug the USB stick, and boot back into windows. You can do this with any distro you are curious about, and once you find one you feel comfortable with you can install it.

My mom hates windows but is also uncomfortable with moving to a new OS, so this is what I did for her. She settled on Mint and now I’m taking an old laptop my dad gave me and I’m going to install Mint on that so she can use it full time but still have her windows machine for the time being. Once she’s comfortable with Mint I’ll move her over completely with the current windows computer since it’s far more up to date and powerful.

Interesting, I’ve never heard of him. But then again I’m in my 40’s, single and no kids, never had a tiktok account, and mostly consume self-hosted media. Some of the locally owned stores I shop at play some…interesting… house music, so maybe I have heard his music and just don’t know it.
