If they’re appointed by the opposition then it’d have to be a president with MPD.

I’ve been seriously thinking a lot of countries need an official jester. An appointed official who gets to hang with the president/premier/prime minister and has full absolute security clearance. Not to disclose anything, but to know all of it, and is allowed speak publicly on any public forum or topic. Always require them to be appointed by the opposition.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Minimum wage isn't survivable anymoreEnglish
2·5 days agoI understand that since you’re working 400 less hours per year, with a months more vacation, and paid parental leave on a job that’s much more difficult to get fired on you might still have complaints.
But seriously, the tiny fractions of a problem that still exist in the Swedish labor market, wouldn’t even make rounding errors in the US. There are always going to be problems, and lots of arguments about how to fix them. Most people in the US, would much rather have Swedish labor market problems to argue about.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Minimum wage isn't survivable anymoreEnglish
1·6 days agoIt was never implemented in the first place. What was intended never happened. Probably for the best honestly. Minimum wage is a poor way to accomplish a living wage, the only advantage it has, is political expediency.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Minimum wage isn't survivable anymoreEnglish
20·6 days agoIt was never sustainable, it was a hack to keep people from demanding unions. There’s plenty of countries with no minimum wage and well paid workers. It takes strong unions and labor protection laws, which is why the fascists will fight it to the death.
It’s still on the books, but isn’t really being funded. Most likely it won’t happen until there’s some political event to give it a push. Also it’s going to be tied to fully automatic driving being considered safe, which it’s not, and is likely to be a ways off.

1·7 days agoThe first chimeric mRNA they investigated, in mice, has an important role in modulating inflammatory responses.
Danger Mouse confirmed.
That’s fortunately been delayed indefinitely since there’s no commercially available tech that can do the job. And nothing in the works right now shows more than minimal promise.

31·9 days agoNot really, there were a lot of people that suspected and rumored, but the press generally didn’t say much about it until Bush was president. The media was more concerned with the economy and Iran-Contra type issues, and didn’t talk about his health a lot. Late night hosts and comedians made jokes about his chin flaps, hair that never moved, and called him an animatronic or puppet. Not a lot about his mental state, other than disdain for his choices, not really health related. After it was publicly acknowledged there was of course a ton of ‘As we all long suspected’ type noises.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is the world's "oldest profession" still illegal ? Instead of being better managed?English
612·9 days agoBecause it’s always accompanied by human trafficking and rape. Even in countries where it’s legal, the laws are shaped around an idea of allowing it, while preventing the worst aspects of it. The efficacy of various systems is still under review, as none of them are as effective as anyone would like.
It’s a similar issue with polygamy. No one really cares what a group of consenting adults gets up to, but it always ends up devolving into some ones twelve year old daughter being married off to an old geezer, or a cult leader, or both. So it ends up getting banned.
They’re both non problems that cause problems. And yes, a hundred ways to control the real problems have been tried. No one has really been happy with the results so far, there have just been various levels that local societies have decided to accept.
