News@lemmy.world•JUST IN: Trump Admin Reportedly Making ‘Heavy Preparations’ for Putting Boots on the Ground in Iran
311·1 day agoIt will be more like Afghanistan. Iran is mostly mountainous and guerilla warfare will be the default. The US relies too much on technology which will not that useful in that environment. Don’t forget that the Iran army has been training for years for this type of conflict. Afghanistan was a disaster for American troops but will be nothing compared to Iran.

politics @lemmy.world•Well, That’s One Way to Sell Americans on Electric Cars. The U.S. has been wary of EVs. As the cost of gas soars, we’re now paying the price.
3·3 days agoIt’s amazing again how limited the US is with choices. In the rest of the world including soon Canada, there is a much greater choice of EV’s. Take Australia for example: besides Tesla there is BYD, Seekr, Geely, MG, KIA, Polestar, Cherry, Hyundai, Skoda and WV. But because of the unsubstantiated hatred of anything Chinese, the US has only a couple of choices. Funnily enough, the CEO of Ford drives a Xiaomi SU7 and does not want to hand it in. Look up his interview after he visited China. The same applies to mobile phones. There are amazing phone brands in the rest of the world but again the US is limited. Land of the free but as long at it is beneficial to the US corporations. Competition is frowned upon.

science@lemmy.world•China could be the world’s biggest public funder of science within two yearsEnglish
13·3 days agoI can tell from my own experience that for pharmaceuticals, they invest heavily in China. One German pharmaceutical has within 1 year, tripled their own staff and bought a local pharma for 1 billion US$. At the same time they closed multiple locations in the US and laid off hundreds of people. Because of the current regime that do not support or believe in the new science. Both Chinese local and central governments are going hard on science with big investments or tax breaks.
Edit: not to mention the investment in Green and renewable energy. China invested 1 trillion dollars last year alone. https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@cryptoandcoffee/china-invested-1-trillion-on-renewable-energy-last-year-dqc

19·5 days agoDon’t get fooled. This guy is a giant cunt. Now the rats are fleeing the sinking ship in the straight of Hormuz.
He’ll be the first of many so they won’t claim any responsibility during the trails to come. Like the Nazi leadership did during Nuremberg.

News@lemmy.world•Trump may delay China trip as he pressures Beijing for help with Strait of Hormuz
3·6 days agoLike China cares. They have closed other trade deals and their export last year actually increased. Not to the US of course but they are becoming more irrelevant by the day.
Plus China will not provide any military support because they never do. They do provide UN peacekeeping forces but even those are limited.
I don’t know what Trump is thinking but he has no standing in Beijing or with the Chinese people.
