I am fairly new to Tasker and I would like to hear about your clever automations. My automations are mostly location, WiFi and time based ones.
Additionally, I have the Google Play version of Tasker, which has some limitations about the Bluetooth, which are coming from the Play store policies.
Do you think there are any security drawbacks if I install it over GitHub?
I have a few automations:
- Between 11pm and 7am, and if not connected to a list of BT headsets or speakers: lower the main media volume to 0.
- If one of a list of apps is on the main screen: activate screen auto-rotate, then disable it as an exit task.
- If the phone is less than 30m from the lat/lon of the center of my house: set a variable NEAR_HOME=1, and set NEAR_HOME=0 as an exit task
- If my phone is not connected to my home SSID and NEAR_HOME isn’t set: activate the Wireguard profile to connect to my home router, and deactivate it as an exit task
- At 9am every day, issue a notification showing the number of days remaining to a significant date occurring later this year.
I used to have several more to correct certain idiosyncrasies my phone would have on boot, low battery and a few other repeatable conditions, but those things got fixed with system updates, or ceased to be relevant.
I have a ton of assorted ones from over the years. Here’s a select few:
- Play the Wii Shop Theme when I open the Play Store
- Turn on Samsung’s built in Protect Battery feature at night, and automatically turn it off when my alarm goes off in the morning
- Open Spotify automatically when I connect to my car’s Bluetooth
- Turn on Silent mode when I get close to work and disconnect from my car, and turn it back off when I reconnect to my car’s Bluetooth
- Set my AoD to Tap to Show when I have no notifications, but change it to Always On when I have notifications from apps I mark important
- Track my earbuds’ battery life via a persistent notification when they’re connected to my phone
- React to double tapping volume up when not playing media to toggle the flashlight, and ditto with the volume down to open the camera
- Clear persistent system notifications that I don’t want or care about that otherwise normally won’t let you clear them or turn them off (take that Google)
- Leave home network => Turn on VPN
- Enter home network => Turn off VPN
I had a task running which would scan all incoming calls on all SIM cards. It then checked the numbers for known contacts and if they are unknown it would check if they called multiple times. I made it because I was bothered by a lot of spam/scam callers. This task would block all notifications, vibrations and ringtones. So it didn’t bother me at all that they called.
If after 9pm M-F, and I plug it into AC Power (Not USB on desktop), then it mutes all system sounds until I unplug it from the AC power. During said time, if certain people call, it raises the ringer to full so I can answer it.
I still have this enabled, but rarely ever use it, it came in handy about a year ago though - when near any of the WiFi hotspots at my work, then turn volume off, upon leaving the range, volume comes back up. Also, enabled my work profile which set an Autonotification to set a timer on my phone and watch for my break and meal periods. I now am full time WFH, so neither of these come in to play.
While connected to Car bluetooth, cancel my work timers (above).
I was working on but had to put on pause, a Google Voice interceptor - the goal behind it is to auto use Google Voice to make outbound calls if you are not calling a contact in your list otherwise, if you called one of your contacts, it would use your normal phone number.
Taskernet share for above (Google Voice Robot) If link is broken, it should be searchable. It’s not guaranteed to work.
