@lemmy hi. I have tried to install many android apps for Lemmy on an old android phone. And was disappointed they either don’t support older versions or just can’t work connect (flutter based apps).
I thought open source and libre movement cared about the environment and reducing e-waste. Instead it’s bigcorp who makes sure their apps run on potato phones even kaios feature phone.
Anyways a fork of inifity for Lemmy would be awesome
Maybe use web app? https://vger.app
They need will to install a newer browser that comes with their own rendering engine (eg firefox or Mull) , Browsers that rely on the internal webView engine can’t render these webapps properly as they lack the latest JS technology
Try to install lineage os to get a more recent version of android
What phone is it?
OP, please can you provide the phone model so I can see if there is a lineageos port, using an outdated version of android is a security risk
You can’t expect developers to write (especially new) software against old APIs that often are significantly worse and more annoying to develop for. This has nothing to do with “caring about the environment and reducing e-waste” since we’re talking purely about software here. Instead blame phone manufacturers for not designing their phones so that they can be easily updated indefinitely. Install a newer Android version, it’s not an iPhone
Feel free to write one.
There is a Jerboa fork that supports Android 5+ https://github.com/ShinyLuxray/jerboa/releases
Impressive, I hope this can help OP @heckler@zirk.us
Did you try https://vger.app? If you can get a somewhat current browser on your device, this provides one of the best lemmy experiences. Just install it as a PWA.
