As the fediverse continues to grow, larger organizations and public figures are increasing their presence on the network. Many of them are looking to metrics to understand their reach in the community.
I have a bad feeling that this will not end well if it’s left to run its course.
What happened to the days when people just took a chance and tried something new and waited for the results to come in? What do they have to lose by giving Mastodon or the Fediverse a try except a certain amount of time and effort? The idea of having to analyze everything and scraping data from user bases before making a decision to freely jump in and give it a try is getting a bit absurd.
well for companies it makes sense i guess. after all they could spend their money on other social media thingies if their research shows that mastodon isn’t working for them.
but what really bothers me is that this article shows that companies become interested in mastodon. i really would love to have a place just for people to interact not companies and their stupid social media teams. on their hand there’s a good chance that I’ll never even notice their posts anyways.
