I would have to say anyone I see wearing a Micro Brand.
Think, NTH, Scurfa, Aevig, Helm, etc… those are brands that get absolutely Zero mainstream advertising, so there is a very good chance they are a watch nerd.
Grand Seiko
I have never seen this yet, but if they’re wearing the iconic seagull 1963
Seiko
Notarolex.
Expensive Seikos, not even Grand Seikos, just the super hard to find stuff that runs at a premium now. If I saw somebody with a JDM lacquer dial urushi SPB or SARX model I would know they have discerning taste. Lots of people like Grand Seikos, watch people want the limited run hand painted Japanese market only stuff.

From where I’m from, pretty much anything besides a smartwatch or a fashion watch (Hugo, Armani, Fóssil, etc)
Smiths — you have to REALLY want it
G shock
I’ve got a Sinn 104 St Sa I, a Seiko SKX 007 & a Seiko SARB033 & not that I’m some self proclaimed watch nerd because that really isn’t the case but whenever I get a compliment I always feel like this guy knows 🤣
