Alright my post got removed because I forgot the square brackets but here we go again. As you can ascertain from the title, I am looking to purchase my first watch. My only problem being I know nothing about the industry whatsoever; so I’ve come to r/Watches to ask for your help (yes, you). I am a Highschool graduate looking for information and help on starting my collection. I am looking for a classic-esc watch that isn’t too flashy. Digitals are off the menu for me and the budget is around the $175 mark. All information from brand suggestions to specific watches I should look into are appreciated.
The buying guide has all the basic recommendations.
What do you need to know about the industry?
Seiko
Casio
Orient
Citizen.
These are all the recommended brands, every time this question is posted.
Welcome to the addiction! It will help if you can start by doing some looking around on your own and getting a feel for what you like . You mentioned you don’t want digital, that’s great you have started the weeding out process. You need to do more of that. Some examples:
Bracelet or Strap?
Automatic, or quartz?
Silver, or other?
Diver?
Complications?
Dial color preferences?
New or Used?Your price range will weed out a lot of options, but there are definitely watches out there you will find. The willingness to look at used will also help, but again, you can find options for new watches in this price rage. One place to start looking is Jomashop, just putting in your high end price, there are over 5K options. Good luck.
