    I assume mostly, because the free stuff doesn’t have a marketing budget.

      Slightly related, I tend to look at heavily advertised products as inferior. Because really good things sell themselves, and all that marketing money ends up in the price I pay.

      That addresses a slightly different question. Supposing people know of the free stuff, why isn’t it discussed as much?

        Because not as many people know about the free stuff, since it doesn’t have a marketing budget to tell everyone it exists. If fewer people know about it, it’ll be discussed less.
