After silently judging as I scrolled through posts riddled with hot takes from 5 years ago I thought…

What are your hottest takes about how the NBA will look 5 years from now? (Go wild with your guesses, nobody will be judging you…)

My hot takes are

  1. Josh Giddy will be in the MVP race
  2. The Booklyn Nets will have either made or won the finals due to Bridges and Ben Simmons showing out
  3. LeBron will continue to refuse to retire, while still putting up 18/4/4. And will blame it on wanting to play with his wife’s uncles barbers daughters stepson 17 years from now.

The warriors won’t be in too bad of shape they’ll just need to start over. Curry was picked at 7, Thompson 11 and Draymond in the 2nd round. They’re a perfect example of why taking isn’t necessary. You don’t need the #1 pick to get talent.

Agreed, my point is you’re not that much more likely to find a Steph Curry at #1 or #2 than you are at #8 or #9. Look at where Giannis and Jokic were drafted, for example.

If you draft well, develop players you draft and get lucky with injuries (Curry getting signed for cheap at the end of his rookie deal, for example) then things can go really well even if the picks aren’t in the top 3.

It’s pretty notable that the Warriors haven’t repeated this feat in over 10 years. Since the Draymond draft, they’ve been moderately successful with Loon, hopeful about Kuminga, and I’ll leave Poole for others to judge, but certainly no all-stars so far.

Granted it’s early, and I wouldn’t yet write off Wiseman or some others, but let’s not pretend that starting over is easy because the Dubs have the draft game figured out.

Oh yeah I don’t mean it’s easy but they’ll be in the same boat as every other team. The idea that they’ll be in a historically bad place isn’t really right. I’m not a GSW fan but their success shows the possibilities for other franchises especially as an alternative to bottoming out and tanking.
