Summary

The U.S. Senate confirmed Kash Patel as FBI director in a 51-49 vote on Thursday.

His nomination, marked by controversy over his loyalty to Trump, raises concerns about the bureau’s independence.

Patel, a former public defender turned prosecutor and top aide in the Trump administration, declined to rule out politically motivated investigations, particularly against Trump’s opponents.

His confirmation follows his contentious role in the Trump classified documents case and reflects his alignment with a unitary executive model.
