Hi all,
For some context I am a 19 year old guy with thin wrists. I have a black tie event coming up next month and would like to purchase a new watch for this event. I do not currently own a dress watch and would like to hear any recommendations you people have. I quite like the look of a rectangular watch but am open for suggestions. My budget is around $300
Thanks!
If you are new to watches, make sure you understand the difference between a quartz watch and an automatic (mechanical). A good video talking about the strengths and weaknesses of each
For a solar powered quartz, you might consider a Citizen Eco-Drive AW1780-09L or maybe a AU1040-08E
If you decide on a mechanical, maybe an Orient RA-AG0005L10A
Casio mts100, mts110
Merkur - Piere Paulin dress watches (handwind only)
Shanghai 8120 (handwind only)
Invicta vintage (line) 37071
Escapement time king seiko homage
You could also ask in r/Chinesewatches. In this price range there are other options there like the cadisen c1032 or something from berny and others.
If you are in the US get a citizen eco-drive you like from the officialwatchdeals store on ebay. They have a few bellow $100. Edit: like this one if you use the 30% off coupon that they have at the moment.
Black tie means no watch. But if you’ve got to wear one make it a Reverso mono face. Your budget will just about buy you the strap.
But seriously don’t buy a watch for an event which dress codes supposes you don’t wear one…
