The app, code-named Project93, will reportedly be named Threads and integrate with ActivityPub. It would be based on Instagram and allow users to sign in with, and migrate their profiles from, Instagram. It appears to have an interface highly resembling Twitter’s. Meta’s Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, said “the app was aiming for ‘safety, ease of use, reliability’ and giving creators a ‘stable place to build and grow their audiences.’”

Given Zuck’s inability to make homegrown success outside of Facebook, I have my doubts. It would be nice to have neighbors in the fediverse, but I don’t trust him either.

If this ever comes to fruition I’ll be blocking all their instances 100%. I have no interest in zuckerberg harvesting my data even if it’s just via my public posts.
