It might be the least expected for anyone to put these two brands together, but here we are. We have recently got the opportunity to check out the Metiers D’Art series and talked to the artisan who made these watches.
I got to say the enamel dials are all very impressive. Taking the one in photo for example, the base has to be a white gold so that while they firing up the enamel, the base won’t melt as gold has a higher melting points. Also this process has to be done over and over again to ensure a rich finish on the colour as enamel normally are translucent.
To make this dial, many processes were taking into consideration, for example, to make the 3D effect of the panthere, the artisan must engrave the dial first then fire up to make the enamel part with high fail rate, once the result is satisfactory l, the artisan proceed to paint the background in microscope (miniature painting), the dial finished with adding additional white gold to the tail bit to make it more reflective, this is very subtle and must be inspected in person to tell the difference. But this does bring additional gradient of colour to the dial and make it more vivid.
My FPJ on the other hand seem to be a little bit in owe to the wife’s newly acquired Hermes.
