You don’t ever see hockey players taking games off for load management. You can’t force those guys off the ice on game days. NBA players are soft. Still love the league, but they soft. Ain’t no dawgs in this league compared to the NHL.

The Greg Campbell shift is worth posting too. Broke his leg blocking a shot on a penalty kill. Not only did he finish the PK shift, on two feet to boot, his presence actually helped kill the rest of the penalty.

unpopular opinion and i grew up a big NHL fan (now i 9/10 times I’ll be watching NFL), but I remember a joke bill burr said about soccer and can’t help but think this is true for hockey as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov3hZvYTmQU sadly this is the only clip I found of what I heard before (with a lot of non-relevant content).

It was a response to a user email from a European or something, about why America was so bad at soccer on the world stage:

“the day american black people give a shit about soccer, that is the end of of all of you”

Hilarious joke and probably slightly racist but also probably true. No direspect to hockey players who are tough SOB’s, but the best athletes in the world are not in hockey, they are NFL, NBA, track, MLB, etc etc where black Americans athletes dominate (a trend that grew every decade after the 60’s and the end of segregation). Income gaps are probably a barrier to entry since hockey is a very expensive sport, but also the fact that just like soccer, black Americans athletes don’t really give a shit about hockey (sadly).

Remember when they gave a shit about boxing? Golden era of heavyweights, before slowly losing appeal around mike tyson and the best athletes from that group migrated to greener pastures that they cared more about(golden era of basketball in the 90’s, golden era of nfl probably now, I don’t know much about MLB but their golden era was probably after jackie robinson was able to play).

An NHL player had his heart stop and was practically dead for a few seconds on the ice and when he became conscious in the locker room the first thing he asked was when he could go back out on the ice. Hockey players are fucking wild

This may sound weird but As someone who played high level hockey growing up I can say that Playing hockey gives you some sort of adrenaline and high that no other sport compares too. I never really thought about it until now, but i think it has something to do with the speed of the game and the ability to just glide

Crazy part to add, playoff hockey is not a part of the player contract. They’re playing for free essentially outside of a small prize pool

Respectfully, with the amount of jumping and running in basketball and the size and height of these guys there is way more stress on the joints than in hockey. Hockey players’ calves would outwork any other sport in the universe, and those guys can take a punch, but basketball is a more all-around athletic game. There’s a reason why hockey players can play until they’re almost 50, and it doesn’t have to do with the players being ‘tougher.’ If that were the case then baseball players would be done after a year and every NFL player would play 10+ years.

Watching the rugby World Cup right now is reminding me just how resilient the human body is. Most of these rugby plays would have a basketball/soccer player out for months

This is why I respect LeBron and Curry, they know they have a duty to the league and are not their just to hoop like some other guys claim they are in the Nba for. And also you simply cannot ask to be traded until your fucking contract is over, players should honour it

I 100% support Lebron resting so I’m not saying this to shit on him but Lebron has missed 20+ games in each of the last 4 seasons. It’s specifically part of why he’s still able to play at such a high level when he feels fully healthy and ready to go.

Nobody sees hockey players do anything it’s like the 20th most popular sport in the world.
