I wasn’t a fan of the colour on this Grand Seiko SBGE295 when looking at it in the store light, as it looked pretty flat and rather boring.
But something made me think to get out of the store basement and come closer to the windows to see it in natural light and that completely changed my mind…
This GS is almost like a chameleon - very often, it looks almost completely black and at other times, it shows off a juicy green colour. I’ve been absolutely loving it
Does it happen to you guys as well? Have you ever been a bit meh about a watch when looking at it under the store lights, but then the natural light completely changed your mind?
I feel that it has to do with the very even and flat light in the store I was in - the lighting completely hid any textures and shadows on the watch as it was very consistent from all sides. I’ve not seen that kind of lighting anywhere else but in watch and jewellery stores.
The AD had the Grand Seikos in a basement (Soho NY) and I had to ask them to go upstairs and closer to the windows.
I walked in looking for the Omega Speedmaster 57, but walked out with this guy as it’s just so much more unique. The GS finishing is next level too
The chameleon nature of the dials is one of the charms of GS, I think! My husband’s Shunbun shifts from pink to white to grey to cream, depending on the lighting conditions.
I think this is particularly true for GS. They can look bland or soullless on stock images but in real life- especially in natural light- the finishing, dial, colors, really come to life and play around
