I am looking to get my husband a nice gift. He doesn’t own any luxury watches, but has mentioned liking this one before. I know nothing about watches so … do you think this Tissot would make a good gift? Otherwise, would you be able to recommend some nice ones under $500?

Quartz watch might last a few years then the batteries will have to be replaced. The machinaical gentleman’s might tick for 30 years for around $550 on Amazon I’d pay the extra $160

If he’s dropped a not so subtle hint to a Tissot get the man a Tissot. Years of heritage. Years of quality watchmaking. Some smart sharp watches. Gentlemen. This one. The T Classic. Divers. Some great watches for five tonne. I’d be made up with a Tissot. No doubt. Before you pay the cash out maybe ask him or go for a stroll and check out a few stores.

Anyhow. Enjoy the process. I’m pretty sure you’ll find something perfect.

Absolutely great watch for the money! BUT: Style and taste is difficult… Offer him an afternoon at your favourite watch store and just gift him what he loves! Laco does great watches for this money. Seiko too.

Hamiltons should be in that range as well at a grey market dealer. Khaki Field Automatics are always a good shout.

The Citizen Tsuyosa has a similar feel and look to the Tissot… The dark blue dial… The black dial. Funkier colours Yellow. Light Blue. Good price. Saphire Crystal. Five years guarantee.

The gentleman is better than the PRX and I will die on this.

I’d own one if I didn’t have noodle wrists (I’ve owned a PR50 for years though).

This is a great blind buy for a gift for a man. Lot of people would say get the powermatic version but I also have this quartz version and it’s just fine. The quality is outstanding. You can feel it’s just a well made watch. Got mine from Jomashop. Pay lot less than retail price from them.

Tissot is an amazing company with many affordable and solid watches. Personally, I would recommend the PRX Powermatic 80. It looks the same but a much better watch all together. In the grey market you can get it below $500 or even some retailers may have it on sale because the approaching holidays.

I literally just bought the automatic version of this watch the other day and have been loving it so far, but I will say that the look might not be for everybody. It’s absolutely high quality, but it is definitely a flashy vintage vibe.

I’m sure he’d love it, but maybe also consider something like a Seiko Cocktail Time or a Hamilton Khaki Field? Everybody loves those.

Just some thoughts. The PRX is a great choice too.

It’s a great gift! Just check if you think it’ll fit his wrist well, because the lug to lug is a bit long. As for quartz vs auto, honestly the quartz is better value for money, even though the dial of the auto is a bit more appealing, and is like the original prx, plus the powermatic 80 is kind of a disposable movement if it needs service which for me personally, kills the “for life” aspect of a mechanical watch.

I’ve heard that the claims of the powermatic 80 being disposable are greatly exaggerated. Tissot will service them whenever you need.

I said “kind of” because servicing will be hard, unless of course, tissot does it, and Tissot probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and the same can be said of the powermatic 80, so you just send it to tissot and they’ll happily replace or service the watch.

I guess it is a bit region dependent sometimes, but many people don’t have good independent watchmakers that will service “regular” watches, but for me a service for a watch is below 50 euros, so for me being able to do that is great and a decision factor.

I guess my point is: it’s like buying a car you can only service at the dealership, and sure enough it seems to be increasingly that way, but i’ll avoid that while i can.

It is a well known Swiss brand and will be a great gift IF it suits your husband.

Just keep in mind that the pictures don’t tell the truth and all the watches look very different in real life. Especially this flat website picture, it doesn’t show realistic depth, glares and so on.

So if you haven’t seen it in person, you should really go to the store and try it on.
