Decided to bring out “The Citizen” Chronomaster “Washi Dial” to celebrate a vintage Citizen acquisition. ( will be posting photos about it on reddit soon ).

Citizen watches are often overlooked, but the brand has always had some top tier gems which have led the industry in certain niche categories.

This Chronomaster is powered by the A060H movement which is accurate to +/-5 seconds a year, it has a solar panel placed above its movement and is sandwiched by traditional Japanese (和紙) paper and a glass dial with applied logos and indices adding incredible depth to its dial.

The dial looks amazing! Kind of reminds me of grand Seiko with the sharp edges, detailed dial, titanium case and accurate quartz movement. Do you think it’s worth the starting price of 2000+ dollars?

Yes, these watches physically hold up pretty well, too. The secondary market can save you a lot of money since these do not hold value as well as GS, either, so if you’re a value chaser, then strongly consider pre-owned! Finishing is easily on a par with GS, and the A060 has a combination of features that GS hasn’t done yet in the 9F. The only complaint I have with mine (black dial version) is that the paper texture of the dial is lost in many kinds of light.

The crown guard is not my cup of tea, I like more the casing of the AQ4100-65W, but man, that dial is mesmerizing.

The black/gold flake chronomaster is available in the US now. It’s on the citizen website. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

They do enjoy sales commensurate with the quality tho. But yes I’m learning to appreciate them more, too.

Thanks for sharing, great pick of yours as always! Mad respect for this brand and how crazy their innovations are - latest one being the first radio-controlled moonphase eco-drive. Just insane value all over their line-ups!

However, as much as I wanna buy a Chronomaster, I’ve read several times that ownership can be tough if you’re not in Japan. Accuracy is more like +/-10 sec/year if this isn’t your daily (not a big deal to me but that’s not what they market), caliber can’t be adjusted (Longines VHP allows it) and customer service is a nightmare because apparently only Citizen Japan can service those if needed.

    Can you confirm?

Are “Citizen” and “Chronomaster” printed on the back side of the crystal? Love the shadows they are casting.

I’ve been looking at this model for the past two years, did it get discontinued? I know as a while Citizen is moving to replace the word “Chronomaster” with the eagle symbol on the bottom half of the dial.
