Just spotted these from Amazon with a $200 coupon, looks like they have been $380 in the past but this is the lowest I’ve seen since then.

I know these weren’t super well received on release but it seems like this might be a good deal. Do you all think they are worth it at this price point?

That’s still disgustingly overpriced. R70x are cheaper and they’re not even in the same league.

I personally prefer the 600 and sent the 660S2 back. I just find the 600 to be a little bit clearer and smoother sounding but some people do prefer the 660S2. Value wise I think all the 600 series should be the same price.

Note: I had to open the “New & Used” pop-up on the product page to find a pair listed with the coupon. So it’s slightly hidden.

id say 15 to 20% better.

      I’ve owned the 650s, 6XX, 660s and 660S2.

If you’re coming from the original hd 660s, the bass sounds more extended. mids sound closer (to me) to the hd 650s. It depends on your wallet, for me, I’m okay with spending $400 for a marginal upgrade.

    How’s the HD660S2?

I remember before it came out there was this hugeeeeeee hype that it addressed all the shortcoming of previous 600 series headphones and it’s suppose to be the best 600 series Sennheiser.

Then after it comes out and no one ever talked about it again. Was it just the price proposition is bad?

Since you can get 6XX for about $200 or so and almost as good.

Headphone influencers tend to claim the 600, 650, and 6XX are either better in quality or better for bang-for-buck value.

People who own the 660S2 have said good to great things about it.

People who are holding off on buying it tend to cite the price as a reason. They don’t think it’s worth $600.

I own the 660S but not S2. At $400 I’m thinking of taking the plunge. I like the 660S and think it’s underrated on Reddit and audiophile sites.

Yep this is my take too. Price seems not so good @$600 especially compared to some of the Hifiman offerings in the same bracket (Ananda Nano) or the DT1990s.

I’m at least going to try them, maybe the only nice thing about Amazon is easy returns if they don’t meet expectations within a month.

Oh yeah, the HD660S are definitely underrated. I’ve used the 600, 650 and now 660s, and I prefer the last one, although The 600 are my “first love” headphones lol (I’d buy them again some day). The HD600 are great (specially they’re sound signature), but sometimes too clastrophobic to me, the HD6XX/650 on an another hand are a bit too warm for my taste, their soundstage isn’t that better than the HD600. And here are the HD660S which are faster, energetic, having a large enough soundstage for my taste, and their detail retrieval is just amazing. They’re hated for not being smooth, and yeah I see that on some Jazz/Pop songs, but other than that they’re much better for my taste.

If you read the recent comments on Head-Fi last week, or you do a search for ‘HD660S’, on the HD660S2 appreciation thread, some people asked the same question. Some had HD660S and asked if it was worth the upgrade to the HD660S2. They generally were all told the same thing, that if you have the HD660S already, the HD660S2 offers a different flavor to the sound, but ultimately it’s not worth the upgrade and they should look for other headphones. Although, if you’ve got some cash to burn, then you can go ahead…

Yeah I do think preference probably play a part too but… from what I gathered it sounds like most people prefer:

        HD600 = HD650 (HD6XX) > HD660S > HD58X

I put HD600 = HD650 meaning they re equal but depending on taste/preference.

So based on what you said it sounds like HD660S2 is better than all of the above. HD660S2 normally are also like 2-3 times the price so maybe it’s a hard sell.

But it might still good as something to bridge the gap between HD600/HD650 all the way to HD800S.

EDIT: Not sure where HD560S sits on this scale.

It’s a great headphone with a not so great price tag. Would be much more appealing at $350 or so.

Is it a good headphone? Yes. At double the price, is it twice as good as the HD6xx? No, honestly I prefer the 6xx. If you’ve tried it and you love the tuning then maybe it’s worth it for you, but no, it’s objectively not a “good deal”, it’s another variation on the 600.

YMOO DS400+. A very basic one. The 660S2s were a gift so they just wanted to get me going. Sounds perfectly good to me though. Will upgrade down the line but totally good for my uses.

As for the phone, there’s probably a way to do it but not 100% sure sorry.

I bought mine for $379.95 back in July from Amazon. I absolutely love them. I am so glad I did not listen to the negative Nancy’s. I got it paired with a FiiO K7BT using the Balanced cable. Everything I listen to sounds amazing from music to gaming and movies/shows. Stock sounds perfect. No EQ required with these. People were just mad about the launch price. Also I noticed Bass gets a lot of hate in the audiophile community.

I don’t know what genres people listen to but the way audiophiles talk about bass you’d think they’re all listening to ‘ambient sounds of the rainforest’

I was going to buy them then too, but everyone in here was like “Those SUCK!” so I didn’t. Next time they’re on sale like that, I’ll buy a pair, but I have too much money going out right now to do it. Maybe Black Friday…

I bought these for 400 a couple weeks ago but will be returning them. I have the 600 and 6xx and prefer those sound signatures. The S2 provides a lot more bass extension, but it gives the sound a more veiled effect and the trebles can be sibilant.
