Here are some (lesser-known) artist/band recommendations for the /r/symphonicmetal fans in this thread:
Brick-and-mortar audio stores, used market, or rarely meet-and-greets.
They’re usually sold as “open-box” or “B-stock” at about 5-10% discount. Or worse, some unscrupulous retailers attempt to pass them off as brand new units at full retail price.
Alternate (thicker/softer) earpads might help with that, but be aware that they will also change the sound of the headphones. Brainwavz and Dekoni are popular options.
Where in Eastern Europe can you find a store that sells Amazon returns for $7? I’ve always thought that was just a US thing.
If anything, hi-res lossless will make more of a difference than burn-in.
I would expect a reputable company that is sending out refurbished products (as warranty replacements or otherwise) to ensure those products are in a usable condition before sending them out. Buying a used product privately from the previous owner is a different matter. Of course, all of that applies only to products that actually retain a significant amount of their initial value after being used, which headphones do whereas partially eaten food does not.
It’s kind of fair for warranty replacements since the unit that is being replaced will have been used for some time. It still depends on the build quality though, some things like Hifiman are known to die randomly no matter how careful you are.
That said, most retailers will provide you a new replacement if they don’t have refurbished units in stock. Drop are being assholes in this case because OP bought the headphones at a discount, so they get more profit by refunding OP’s purchase and selling a new unit at full price than replacing it with a new unit.
Sennheiser HD 560S, which is also one of the best sounding headphones I have heard (for the price and otherwise).
Other HD 5-- series fit the same but don’t sound quite as good (IMO), and similarly for the HD 6-- series.
I love my 560S for metal. Now I’ve heard people complain they only sound good with well mastered music, but I have plenty of poorly mastered underground metal bands in my collection and that doesn’t bother me.
You just like IEMs more than headphones, it seems. Might be an unpopular opinion over here but it is what it is. If you think the Anandas were a waste of money then by all means return them or resell them.
“I listen to many genres but mostly…” proceeds to name every genre
/r/symphonicmetal and currently Sennheiser HD 660S2
Most people would describe the HD 560S as neutral-bright rather than warm (not saying that’s a bad thing; neutral-bright is very much my preference and I love the 560S).
If OP is using the headphones wirelessly, the exact SPL is going to depend on the voltage/power of the built-in amplifier in each headphone, which I can’t find listed in any specifications so the sensitivity and impedance values don’t mean much.
That said, I do think OP is listening too loud because I’ve never had the need for more volume in any consumer wireless headphones I’ve tried (sound quality is another matter).
This makes me curious about vinyl, because I love my HD 560S.
Sennheiser HD 660S2 (along with a variety of other headphones) with Topping E30II/L30II stack
I’m 25 years old and I also listen to and collect albums (well, CDs mostly), rather than playlists. Make of that what you will.
The connector on the headphone end is still the same 2.5mm with twist-lock mechanism as on the pre-revision HD 560S (and HD 558, 598, 559, 569, 579, 599, etc.). Any aftermarket cable made for the pre-revision HD 560S, or one of the compatible models, will work the same on the post-revision 560S.
The revision changed the cable length (3m to 1.2m) and the connector on the source end of the cable (6.3mm to 3.5mm). In both cases, you get an adapter for the other type of connector on the source end, so if you don’t want to purchase aftermarket cables, it comes down to which length you prefer.
Sorry for the confusion.
