But there already is a “Lists” feature on web! How does this differ?

“With the new update, you now have the ability to create custom lists and categorize your follows based on specific topics or interests, while removing them from your home feed,” Rochko writes. “This not only helps in decluttering your home feed but also allows you to engage with certain topics on your own terms, when you are ready.” The update also has a redesigned home tab to make it easier to navigate between your home feed, lists, and hashtags, Rochko says.

Rochko didn’t specify if or when lists might arrive on iOS or web, and we’ve asked Mastodon when lists might get added. However, Rochko does say that “our iOS and web teams are also working steadily on new features and improvements.”

Looking forward to trying this feature out when it finally rolls out to web/iOS. I tend to prefer segmenting my feed, and hopfully this will allow me to do this more efficiently.

Man, I can’t imagine using the Mastodon app when it’s so far behind other apps, feature-wise. I did try it, but it’s just not good enough compared to, say, Mona or Woolly. A bit of me thinks the Mastodon team should stop putting their limited resources into the apps and focus only on the web versions (both desktop and mobile). But then we’d be reliant on mostly proprietary apps for mobile access, and that wouldn’t be cool.
