I photograph families/babies at their own home and weddings. I currently use a speed light with an umbrella for family/babies photos as this is portable and I don’t have to use their power. I currently don’t use OCF for the formal photos for a wedding but looking at getting into it rather than just using natural light. I know I can’t photograph groups of people with my current setup for formal photos in a wedding as my speedlight and umbrella just isn’t big enough. I also have trouble with my current setup of my speed light just not firing as most of the time the signal is blocked via the umbrella but I manage to get around this.
I’m looking at the AD200 so I can use for both situations. However, I really can’t afford to spend the money at the moment so I’m trying to find workarounds. Are there any other options for a portable flash system that isn’t as expensive? At home I have a studio light (this one: https://photogear.co.nz/brands/godox/studio-flash/qsii-series/godox-qs400ii-qs-ii-series-studio-flash-with-built-in-2-4g-wireless-x-system-triger/) but it has to be plugged in. Is there anything out there for a battery pack so I can use this on location rather than buying a new flash? I can’t seem to find anything out there but surely there is something… right?
Any other options and advice is welcomed!
Unfortunately professional photography needs a certain amount of resources and a bare minimum spend for acceptable results. I use the Godox AD 200 & 300s and for me producing outdoor portraits/ features the AD300 is the minimum power needed with mods / softboxes on. The AD200s are quite good for back lightng help and useful as a 2nd/3rd light. A few years earlier there was less choice and you’d be buying Profoto heads at x3 the price. So look on it that the Godoxs are extremely good value for money!
