I’ve wanted a set of LCD-X for a number of years now and finally saved up enough to get my hands on a pair.
They’re my first serious headphone so I don’t really have a point of reference to other offerings on the market, but they’re just as enjoyable to listen to as my Neumann KH120 which is saying something.
They feel beautiful in the hands, and despite my concerns over weight, they’re incredibly comfortable to wear. The distribution of the weight works wonders.
I’ve paired them up with a SubPac for tactile bass, and it’s mind-blowing how enveloping the sound is when they’re both dialled in.
I still have mixed feelings on the Oratory preset, but the more I listen, the more my ears adjust.
Congrats. Fine choice
I just got the XC. Which EQ do you find sounds best?
the white neumanns 🤤
They look nice! Been looking to get new headphones. This might be an option 😂
Congrats—Hope you get many hours of great listening with them!~!
Neck hurt
While they are a bit heavy I find them comfortable to wear for 2-3 hours at a time.
A must is the right earpads, either original or Delkin. I tried a cheap pair from China/AliExpress, and those were horrendous.
I found Oratory’s EQ quite a bit too hot in the upper mids. I’m fine with his profiles for most of my other headphones, so I think this may come down to unit variance, Audeze can’t make the same headphone twice and the FR for samples is all over the place. So it’s hard to EQ from third party measurements.
I was using various variations of Oratory’s EQ that brought down the upper mid bump quite a bit:
Preamp: -9.5 dB Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 26 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 0.71 Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71 Filter 3: ON PK Fc 240 Hz Gain -0.6 dB Q 1.4 Filter 4: ON PK Fc 540 Hz Gain 0.8 dB Q 1.4 Filter 5: ON PK Fc 760 Hz Gain -1.1 dB Q 2.5 Filter 6: ON HSC Fc 1800 Hz Gain 5 dB Q 0.71 Filter 7: ON PK Fc 2670 Hz Gain -2.9 dB Q 2.7 Filter 8: ON PK Fc 3850 Hz Gain 2 dB Q 1.4 Filter 9: ON PK Fc 5650 Hz Gain -5.2 dB Q 3.5 Filter 10: ON HSC Fc 9000 Hz Gain -3.5 dB Q 0.71
This is a minimal EQ alternative that just ups the bass and fixes up the mids recess a bit without major changes, this is what I use most these days. It’s a headphone that absolutely needs EQ to sound right/good but particularly with the sample variance if you don’t have your own measuring rig a lighter touch may be worth trying. If you are doing detailed EQ your sample has to be very close to Oratory’s sample and I don’t think that is reliable with Audeze. I do have an IEM measuring rig, and a Euclid, and it’s way off other people’s measurements (which are also all way off each other).
Preamp: -3.5 dB Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71 Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 300 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 0.71 Filter 5: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 1.5
Not your first pair of serious output devices though judging by those near-field monitors 👀…. Neuman?
How long periods at a time you keep the on?
Im worried about the weight too.
I’ll last about 2 hours before I start to feel the weight
The weight is over exaggerated. While they are hefty, they are very comfortable. You’re more likely to be uncomfortable from the clamping force of many other cans out there. If you’re considering them, just realize you can’t jog with them and you’ll be fine.
You’ll get used to the weight. I upgraded to my X’s years ago when my Sundara’s broke, and you could definitely feel the weight after a few hours. After a week or two, you won’t notice it at all if you use them as daily drivers, and they’re honestly incredibly comfortable with a few mods.
That is very assuring to hear. What mods would you suggest? Im bald if that matters regarding the headband area and not that big of a melon.
Hell yeah! Mine come in tonight and I’m super pumped about it. Going from the HD 598, and excited to see the differences. Enjoy sire
Happy days! Let me know how they treat you, would be very interested to hear your opinion.

It’s not my taste in music usually, but on the LCD-X it sounds absolutely wild if you want to hear something a bit weird.
Please update us on your experience. I’d love to hear someone’s take coming from my exact headphones.
Try Peace equalizer and use the auto-EQ to import the oratory1990 settings.
I’m not sure what Oratory settings you’re using but with Peace auto-EQ it does not sound weird.
Aw yiss.
You got a good one, this headphone pretty much cured my upgradeitis.
Is Apple Music promoting Mike in the background there? If so, dope.
This is Qobuz, I’m not familiar with Mike!
Enjoy! I love them with a bass shelf.
200Hz +30DB shelf if you want to melt your brain (and probably the drivers)
Good choice man, although I guess I’m biased lol. Once I got these, I felt like there’s no reason to upgrade anymore. Amazed everyday with how great they sound, no matter the media being played. I wear mine for over 12 hours a day as daily drivers, the weight bothered me at first but now I don’t even notice it. You’ll get a neck of steel in a few weeks.
I’ve had my X’s for almost 3 years now, and I highly, highly recommend getting a ZMF Pilot Pad to wrap around the metal headband above the leather Audeze strap. Those Audeze headband straps stretch out really quick, and you’re gonna hate having to replace them all the time. Looks kinda goofy, but it really improves the comfort, and you’ll never have to replace the strap again.
Once the ear pads wear out, the Dekoni Choice Leather pads are a great product for the money, super comfy and keeps that low end. I’ve experimented with a few Dekoni pads and they’re definitely my favorite.
If you need any Peace EQs, feel free to DM and I can send you what I have if you want experiment some more. I tend to like Bassy Rap/Electronic/R&B, so I’ve got a few nice presets.
Welcome to the club!
