Highlights: Dr. Bernice King is no stranger to watching people on social media use her father’s legacy to score a point. But this time, she’d clearly had enough of it.

On Wednesday, the daughter of the late-civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called out comedian Amy Schumer for implying that he would have supported Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.

Don’t forget posting small excerpts of larger works that completely miss the larger meaning in favor of a modern political agenda.

That’s the how of the same point. They did the thing you said, to accomplish what you replied to.

Erase who’s making the most sound and has a following, then control what people can learn about it.

Otherwise the kids grow up and know better than what they’re told in class

Totally agree. Opponents of affirmative action, reparations, and the like will quote this: line:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Without doing the basic research to find that MLK Jr. was in favor of reparations. Or try to bend his words to supporting capitalism when he was more socialist (though he opposed totalitarian communism).

Why is Amy Schumer so involved in all of this? As far as I can tell she has no horse in this race and so shouldn’t be speaking about it

She’s Jewish, the current actions of Isreal are causing a spike in anti Semitic stuff so she’s directly effected by the current political climate.

She shared a video of Dr King talking about the state of Isreal in the 60s.

Of course Jewish people are going to feel a certain way after a terrorist attack on a country created specifically for Jews.

It’s pretty easy to see her perspective if you take two seconds to imagine someone else’s perspective. But that’s hard for many people I guess.

She should still be criticized about this, but don’t pretend like she doesn’t get to have an opinion. That’s almost as ridiculous as what she did.

She made a post on Twitter, which millions of people do every day. She wasn’t standing on a soap box in the Town Square. This headline is a major exaggeration of what she said, even.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. All this discussion about her’s is just a chance to start up the Amy Schumer hate train again.

That and exposing all the anti-semites on the left too. Extreme right and extreme left really aren’t all that different in the end

I assume she hasn’t gotten a Netflix special in a while and wanted the visibility.
