Through 4 games Alperen Sengun is averaging 19.3/8.5/6.0 per game on 58% shooting from the field and 42% from 3
While obviously an extremely low sample size this should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been following Sengun’s career. He’s been an amazingly gifted offensive player since he first stepped on the court and is finally being given minutes and more importantly the usage needed to thrive.
Ime Udoka and the coaching staff have not surprisingly been a better coaching staff than the one led by Paul Silas and through 4 games have given him 32 minutes per game whereas he had trouble breaking 20 minutes per game in the previous regime being benched for the likes of Bruno Fernando and Usman Garuba at times.
Sengun’s growth spurt over the off-season has given him a boost at the defensive end where he looks more serviceable than before and has led him to have a neutral +- of -3 while the team is a total of -36. He’s also started figuring things out keeping his fouling down at 3 fouls per game and able to stay in the game whereas before he got yanked at the first sight of foul trouble
He is keeping the team afloat and is might honestly be primed to blow up this season.
tyrese maxey should be leading based on previous winners
I agree that he should be in the early conversations, but MIP is heavily driven by narrative, unfortunately. I think Maxey will win it now that he’s stepped up to the plate with Harden being gone.
Rockets fans will be so sick when Vassell wins it
