Both are approx. the same price, but I’m not in the market for two.

My wrist is 6.75in, so I think either will work, but the 39mm (1815) probably fits slightly better. I Love the moon complication of the saxonia, but I think I like the overall look of the busier dial of the 1815 as its easier to dress down. I also think the movement displays better on the 1815.

Which would you prefer?

The 1815 probably has more wearability than the moon phase. Although I love both.

What do you mean by wearability? I personally prefer the saxonia but am partial to automatics…the 1815 up down is beautiful but I’m also not a huge chronograph fan. Really can’t go wrong either way though…

Neither are chronographs. The 1815 has small seconds and power reserve sub-dials. With a 72hr power reserve auto vs manual really doesn’t matter. The manual in the 1815 allows it to be a little thinner and more elegant.

Moonphase for me, but it’s really the calendar/moon combo. FWIW, that watch is in my top 3 right now so I came in with heavy bias.

Same size wrist here. The ALS’s I’ve always liked are the 1815s. The up/down would be my choice. Being manual it should be slightly thinner making it the wear better. Future service costs would also be lower with fewer complications.

Both watches are essentially equal in wearability (I.e. size, dress up/down) and are inverted in the sense of their symmetry (I.e. horizontal plane subdials on the up/down vs vertical on the moonhpase) but have the same “busyness” in that sense to me. I think either you could easily dress up or down with a change of the strap, they are both gold "dress’ watches, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t suitable for everyday wear! I wear my dress watches with everything, only person who will care is you lol.

The up/down seems to add a bit more diversity to your collection being a manual wind (the winding of a Lange is one of the nicest winds out there) and you’ve said it yourself you like the dial layout better and movement display. Seems like you’re leaning towards that model already so go with your gut.
