I’m taking a break from my usual work to focus on this interest of passion.
I want to design some high end accessories around Headphones/Audio-gear. Stands, Storage, Upgraded/custom parts, etc.
If it were me, I’d say something that looks like a exotic car part, in carbon fiber would make for a sick looking headphone/amp stand… but, I have eccentric tastes. I know things like RGB and Epoxy-Wood are trendy these days. or Maybe a more subtle/refined style is key.
I can’t get started until I decide what materials I will be working with, so I’d love to hear what vibes my peers have in these ways!
TLDR:
If you have or could imagine having a life style, where you own some very elite audio gear, what would the supporting setup be made of and the the vibe you’d want for it?
I always thought black wasn’t black enough… maybe vantablack disposition layer
Black is safe, touch of wood doesnt hurt, except I dont like it on Hifimans.
Im thinking carbon fibre headband mixed with dark wood but not glossy cups might go well together.
Favorite: Carbon
Least favorite: Wood
I love wood, copper, brass, bronze, generally anything brown/orange, I love for some tan ear pads.
ZMFs epoxy wood cups do look amazing but they aren’t really a timeless design where walnut or zebrawood are, It’s why I bought my T60RPs as the walnut cups are just warm and comfy. That said my SR325x are silver and purple.
Plastic. High-quality plastic is durable, lightweight and feels great.
On top of that plastic can be dyed through so scratches don’t show easily. They also don’t get freezing cold in winter.
Good plastic is the best material for the majority of consumer electronic.
In the market I wish to target, when a product is scratched, they give it to the little people. 🤣
I love dark wood and metal/copper
I don’t like to put monks or priests in my setup, they would probably criticize my excessive spending
As I tell my acolytes, focusing ones wealth into that which brings joy, uncomplicates their universe allow the soul to fly with out obstacles.
As an engineer, whatever performs best.
The performance goal is how the product performs in the marketplace > how it performs for the end-user. A high quality/value product sold at manageable volumes for a single person to produce, with an optimal time/cost/profit margin.
I want to create things that people see and go, this belongs in the spaceship of a mafia don. An environment that complements the $2k+ headphones/amp/etc.
Carbon Fiber (reinforced plastic). Stronger but lighter than most materials.
Aesthetically, I’m partial to bead blasted aluminum and carbon fiber finishes, with maybe some darker wood accents in the occasional spot.
I’m not a particularly big fan of leather and glass personally, nor do I like glossy plastics. Matte plastics are fine though. Functionally though, wood would probably be pretty easy to work with without requiring specialized tools and or skills.
Im a wood junkie. A significant part of my purchasing decision comes down to it. If not for the gorgeous wood housings/cases much of my equipment has id have gotten something different.
Don’t care about the material, I just want everything black.
Gloss, Flat, Satin, Void?
Void seems a bit too much, but Flat Black looks the best.
Yup. I’m very happy with my Elex purchase because it sounds great, but also, that thing is black as hell.
