Basically, the title.

We saw a lot of 30+ pt games even 40-50 pt games by various different players in the last 3 years. (Even Players like Sadiqq Bey had 52)

Are the players, especially superstars just that talented that the defense best chance is to force them to their most inefficient spots and pray they will miss?

Or, maybe there are some truth that nba rules allow some “carrying” and “travelling” which makes already great players more unstoppable?

Or maybe the pacing of the game is just favored on offense. Cause casual nba fans like high scoring games, and see their favorite players scoring baskets rather than missing due to allowed tougher defense?

Or maybe it is just because of Steph’s 3 Pt Revolution Impact?

Or maybe Two or three things can be true at the same time?

Ofc, Superstars in every era will be Superstars in any Era. But aside from transcendental Players (Mjs and Lebrons of the world), In general, players today score more points than yester years.

Why is it easier to score 30 today? Or is it really easier?

Players can rake up stats against tanking teams. Tanking increased after the kd warriors. Once the teams rebuild the nba playoffs will be difficult to qualify for and scoring will decrease. Also the current draft brought a lot of defensive rookies. Wemby, Ausar and Derek are the prominent ones. Scoring will flatline or decrease a bit to an average of 100-110.

Shooting mechanics significantly improved over the years. The 3pt line adds a lot of pressure which opens the court for a more effecient shot. The warriors motion offence and the nuggets offence is specifically designed to find a good open shot whether a layup, dunk or a midrange shot. Mostly it is the rise of the one motion jump shot popularized by the splash brothers and Ray Allen that improves shooting and creates a scoring threat.

Not a lot of players averaged 30 pt in 2016-17. A lot of high scoring is due to the collective tanking in the NBA after the kd warriors.

Spacing. There’s room to operate. Star wings from the early to mid 00’s would kill to have centers who shoot 3’s.

What makes it easier? You have to be able to make tougher shots. Against defenses that are allowed to zone.

You definitely see a lot more bricks if you try to rematch older games. Players these days are better at shooting. Mid range guys like KD, Booker, Kawhi and three with Steph and Same would be anomalies in past eras. Just watch Steph’s first few games and compare them to now, and I’m not talking about Steph. It was the other players around him.

Increased pace, higher efficiency, more threes, and less defensive effort. There were times like the 50s where teams shot significantly more than today (like 30 more FGA per team) and played with an even higher pace but they didn’t get 30pt games much because the best scorers in the game were all shooting 37% FG.
