Who will the Most Improved Player this season, who gets your vote?
For me, there are two players that stand out:
- Cam Thomas (BKN) - 26.9 ppg (10.6 last season), also improved a bit in every other category.
The main question about him is that can he continue on being a bucket for the rest of the season. If he can I think its a nobrainer for him to win the award.
- Jalen Johnson (ATL) - 14.9 ppg (5.6 last season), also with 8.9 reb (4 last szn), shooting much better, improved every other stat.
Whats your take? Who do you endorse for the MIP award at this point?
Maxey and Scottie Barnes
I think if Cam can averaged 20ppg at least he should get it
I know I’m biased but Jalen Johnson’s stat line do not represent his true impact.
He’s guarding the best forward every night (so far, Giannis, KAT, Paulo, Zion), he has very high bbIQ and rarely makes mistakes and he has guard level playmaking.
He fits so well with Trae
Maxey, Oubre and Sengun are the other ones that come to mind.
Jalen Smith, Benn Mathurin. Andrew Nembhard, or Nesmith
zero bias detected, you’re clear
Math and Nemb aren’t even the Most Improved Canadians. No bias.
Cam Thomas at this point and it’s not particularly close. Though I doubt these stats will hold up
Wasn’t Cam Thomas insane at the end of last year? Feels like Jalen Johnson or Sengun have taken the biggest leap.
Scottie Barnes
Jalen has been amazing. Unfortunately probably not enough of a narrative for MIP unless he can be a true all star caliber player (which is wildly unlikely)
I wish a player like Jalen had a better chance of getting MIP. The MIP picks have been ridiculous imo. I don’t think a ROTY or someone on that level should be allowed to win a MIP.
I don’t even get the parameter for MIP after Ja won. Is Naz Reid in the convo?
The N.B.A.’s specific instructions in this category read as follows: “This award is designed to honor an up-and-coming player who has made a dramatic improvement from the previous season or seasons. It is not intended to be given to a player who has made a ‘comeback.’ ”https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/09/sports/2018-19-nba-awards-stein.html
Is Naz Reid in the convo?
Always.
If Hornets can find a way to turn things around once they get some guys (Terry, Martin, Bridges) back, Mark Williams deserves to at least be an honorable mention.
Nobody watches us but when he’s on the floor he has a significant defensive impact, we look competitive and when he’s on the bench is when we look like the worst team in the league
Note, not saying he should win, just saying he should be on the ballot
Kelly Oubre right now for the sixers he’s having a great year to start a they picked him up for the veterans minimum! He’s at 17.4 points per game and 51.8 % from the field and he was coming off of the bench. He’s been a great addition to the sixers and right now top of the East after beating Boston.
I know there are lots of reasons to hate him, but… Dillion Brooks is shooting really well this year compared to how he shot last year… That wasn’t a jump I was expecting to see.
RJ Barrett
Tyrese Maxey
