As an SWE, I realized I don’t have the deep knowledge of any specific domains to know if there is a problem to solve. The only way to validate then, is to interview as many people as possible and understand their problems.
I realized that public notices are still being distributed in an ad hoc way. Often in local papers not event aggregated by county. My hypothesis is that probate notices, lien notices, foreclosure sales could all be useful information for someone and a pipeline to aggregate and normalize the data could be pretty cool.
I’ve reached out to real estate agents, asset recovery specialists at banks and haven’t really had any luck beyond surface level conversations. And it is so hard to get anyone on a call in the first place. Does anyone have any tips / experience getting into the nitty gritty of a new industry?
Start by zeroing in on online forums and groups where people from your target industry hang out. Jump into conversations, toss around your ideas, and see what feedback you get. If there’s a webinar or a conference happening in that field, definitely try to join. It’s a sweet spot for networking and getting the inside scoop.
