    I still don’t get why it was so easy for Matrix to overshadow XMPP as an IRC successor.
    If XMPP already did federation and all the advanced stuff that people expect from modern chat platform, then why did it not become more poular? It was even basis for Google’s chat (Hangouts or whatever the first chat thing withing Gmail was) and for the first Facebook chat if I am not

      Tell me about it. But /u/nutomic and crew, and even the kbin devs are sold on matrix so we’re on our own here

    If you’re coming over from Reddit, you’ll have less privacy issues here. I see the Lemmy admin’s transparency as refreshing, but apples to apples you’ll be on a more private platform. You’ll never have to deal with ad’s or alterations to the core principles for Wall Street investors either!

      I love XMPP to death but it has many issues as well. Both don’t work as you’d expect from a very basic chat application.
