Why have we collectively decided Wembanyama’s nickname would be “Wemby” and not something Mamba related like Wemba or Wamba? Dude is even long and thin like a snake. Is the mamba club so exclusive that only the likes of Kobe Bryant and Brian Scalabrine are allowed in?

Wemban is two syllables. The announcers already have trouble correctly saying his name as Wembanyama instead of Wembamyama.
So instead of mixing up Wemba/Wemban/Wembam they skip all that with Wemby. Plus he’s a rookie so he might get a new nickname later on.
