Hi all. I’m set on breaking away from my day job and running my own business. With my skills, knowledge and interests, there are a few possibilities. The issue I’m having is deciding which to commit to. I know nothing is ever certain in business or in life, and there’s no such thing as quick and easy money (most of the time!), but on the other hand, I don’t want to commit to a business that will take me years to reach a stable, consistent income if at all. Which of the following would be the path of least resistance to get to of $8k+ USD per month? Thanks. :)

    What are your skills, knowledge and interests? What contacts do you have to sell any of these services to as your initial customer base?

      My skills include front end web design (experienced in Wordpress and Webflow), general tech knowledge (my sector) and content creation (blogs and video tutorials).

      I don’t have any relevant contacts and would be starting from scratch.

    as an SEO specialist, there is a clear need for Web Design and it is much easier for someone with experience.
    the amount of businesses with poorly designed websites or no websites at all, is huge.

      Definitely agree. Seen some terrible sites out there that have left me wondering what the designer was thinking. >.<

      Getting my first clients is currently a challenge. Hopefully I can improve my sales and marketing to overcome this!

        I’m on the same quest as you are,
        just started prospecting a few days ago.
        here is what i do, i focus on quality prospects over just prospecting to whoever.

        I look for clients who show signs of interest in digital marketing but haven’t been successful, in my case i just go to maps type in a search query “industry + area”
        which industry?
        all industries could make use of digital marketing and SEO services, but which ones are the best?
        the best ones are industries where traditionally most businesses aren’t relying on SEO but few businesses are currently taking advantage of that and ranking on search results with minimum effort, these few businesses are disrupting the industry by the way they are marketing.

        i picked a business that has a nice website but doesn’t rank for the main keywords, and now we are in contact, hopefully, i close him soon.

        He already has a website that shows his interest in digital marketing, so he is qualified.
        I think you should adapt this to your prospecting process.

    Web design as a service is the only “real” business there. The others are sort of make money quick schemes that internet money making gurus came up with essentially to make themselves money. They aren’t impossible but they are improbable and likely played out.

    Web design can definitely be a real business. Niche down if you enter it. Start with people you know who are in business but don’t have great websites or healthcare providers seem to be a general category without enough of a web presence. There is growing competition to build for them from what I’ve seen which is either a good sign if you’re really good or a bad sign if you’ll blend in.
