I’m waiting on my first Chrono24 purchase, and I was prepared for the import fees based on the information provided on Chrono24 and from discussions here on Reddit. From what I had read here, it seemed hit or miss as to weather import fees would be imposed. Just curious from others that have experienced this and have purchased often from Chrono24, did you get these fees imposed every time? Or just sporadically? Not complaining, just curious. Thank you.
I’ve had mixed experiences with Chrono24 and customs. Two different ~$1000 purchases didn’t have any import fee, while another $850 one did. All were declared at the appropriate values, so who knows. I’ve got a Pelagos on the way that I know I’m going to get dinged on, not looking forward to that!
Thanks for the response. Were these all from Japan to the US? This is more along the lines of what I’ve heard in the forums.
It really depends on the shipper and if they know how to finesse customs. You can do so by declaring the watch to be a “replica for a movie” aka it’s only worth $300…
Yup, all were from Japan coming to the east coast, including the incoming Pelagos. /u/hope2c50 is right, it definitely seems to depend on who’s shipping the watch.
Have you see the Long Island Watch video about import fees? It’s worth watching.
It doesn’t matter that you bought something from Japan or that you bought it through Chrono24. What matters is the declared value, the courier, and the harmonization code(s) used.
