hi! i have australian citizenship but currently live in the usa on a non-immigrant visa so i cannot legally work in the u.s., but would i be authorized to work remotely for australia or any other countries?
No, not if you are based in the US.
Typically a remote company will pay you via EOR, employer of record, which means a US based entity. You’ll need your W2 and SSN for this.
There are some 50 odd countries with digital nomad visas some much better than others. The Philippines is the only county I know of that allows you to work while on a tourist visa as long as you’re not there to establish clients or to take a local job. You would just need to establish clients outside of the Philippines or have a remote job based in your country of residence.
Where does Philippines say it’s ok to work remotely on a tourist visa?
AFAIK Canada is the first one to list digital nomads ok on a tourist visa, IE don’t need a work visa: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/campaigns/high-skilled-workers.html
Too bad Canada is so damn expensive
Unsure this is what you’re looking for, but: 44 countries offer working holiday visa schemes for young Australians, including the USA. Presumably, working remotely is permitted (as well as for an employer in-country), although I don’t know for sure.
