Thought I heard somewhere that the original watch worn was traditionally an all gold datejust, then the day date was created as a tribute and marketed as the president watch. Similar to how the oyster perpetual was the first Rolex on top of Everest but the explorer was created as a tribute and marketed as the Everest watch.
