I feel like every time I see Klay Thompson dribble into a midrange, it’s a difficult fadeaway or pull-up or something and he rarely makes it. Even if he does make it, it’s 2 points rather than 3. I wanted to confirm how he shoots on midranges and the stats match the eye test. He is not good from midrange, even last year which is considered a pretty good year for him
The last 3 years from 10+ ft
- 2021-22: 40.3%
- 2022-23: 40.6$
- 2023-24: 38.2%
Klay basically shoots the same 40% from 3, which is far more valuable (60TS vs 40TS)
Why does Klay shoot these midranges at such a bad rate when he could only take 3s and be a relatively efficient scorer?
I feel like he’s tried to self-create more and more since being left of the top 75 list despite actually being LESS capable of it now post-injuries
This is why you see the high midrange volume on bad efficiency
Maybe I’m wrong but I never remember him trying to ISO and dribble constantly like he does now in 2015-2019
Why doesn’t Klay just shoot 3s since the defense lets him do it freely every time, is he stupid?
How should we know? 😅
Klay is a catch-and-shoot player, as in every time he catches the ball he shoots it, wherever he is
He has 4 rings so he gets 4 years to try shooting 40%
40.3% and 40.6% is over 40%
Klay is a lifelong Kobe fan… Understandable.
It creates a variety in his game and keep the defenses honest and guessing.
