Leading up to the draft the 2020 Class was thought of as one of the weaker draft classes in recent memory but 4 years later this class has ended up as one of the best drafts, especially when it comes to Guards. This Class in my opinion has 5 guards with All Star potential (Ant, Hali, Lamelo, Maxey, and Bane) and 3 guys with All NBA potential (Ant, Hali, and Lamelo). It also has solid role players like Saddiq Bey, Quickley, etc. The only real negatives about this draft is the lack of good Bigs. But overall the draft has been one of the better ones and I’d honestly take this class over a lot of the recent draft classes.
In recent memory 2018s the only one I’d take over 2020.
Don’t forget Devin Vassell. He has all star potential imo to be like Khris Middleton with better defense and more volume shooting
Future 6MOY Cole Anthony too
Well, underrated, yes, I suppose. But I think it’s pretty ‘average’, as far as drafts go.
It’s not like a 2013 type draft where Giannis as down at the bottom and only Oladipo is worthy of a Top 5 pick in any other draft. That’d be considered a bad draft overall.
I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s better than 2022 or 2023, just yet.
If 2022 means Banchero, Chet, Ivey, and Sharpe become studs…that makes it better, with players like Mathurin, Eason, Duren, Williams, Kessler, Williams, etc still filling the ranks.
Likewise, 2023 just started. Wemby, Miller, Ausar already look NBA ready. In theory, that should mean Amen will be good, too. Scoot is still pretty hyped (he may not meet that hype but he has skills, to, at least, be Baron Davis like). Then, there are a bunch of players like Jacquez, Wallace, Lively who have potential
This makes it seem like these recent drafts might have more starpower while having similar good players spread throughout it.
I just want to say that I also thought of Baron Davis as a Scoot comp, and if he becomes that, that’s a very good player. I don’t think he’ll be as good as people hyped him up pre-draft, but if he’s that, that’s very good.
Yeah, I do think it’s the more realistic outcome since, if you look at players like Wall, Westbrook, Morant, Rose, CP3, Kyrie, Fox, etc…they had it all figured out from Day 1 as young prodigies (those who entered the league under 21). I’m willing to give him time but if Scoot can’t figure it out, there’s no historical precedence he’ll ever be a superstar PG.
Otherwise lol, as someone who wanted a Thompson twin over Scoot and felt both could be Pippen-esque, it’d be a massive disappointment.
Ausar’s playstyle literally fixes the Blazers three biggest weaknesses last year - POA defense, rebounding, and secondary ballhandling.
Shouldn’t surprise anyone, the last “worst draft in recent memory” ended up pretty decent too (2013).
