Not in BC or AB, but we purchased our house while my wife was on mat leave. The lender asked us to provide a letter from her employer confirming her income before going on mat leave and that her job was there for her at the end of her leave. They also contacted them by phone to check that the information that was provided was correct, but I couldn’t say what they discussed then. I know that our mortgage was approved, and that they took into account my wife whole income before mat leave. She did not go back to this employer afterward, but it hadn’t been discussed with them yet.
That would be ideal. Although I think the fact that we would be moving between provinces might be a bit suspect for lenders.
I agree, that’s why I mentioned that it was expected she’d get her job back at the end of her leave. I know we wouldn’t have gotten the mortgage approval if her employer had said otherwise. I’m sure it was discussed when the lender called her employer.
