Two of the most electric young teams in the league that started rebuilding around the same time. Who would you rather have moving forward?

Rockets: Sengun/Green/Smith/Eason/Thompson/Whitmore

Magic: Banchero/Wagner/Carter/Suggs/Black/Anthony

Rockets have a much higher ceiling in my opinion but not everyone reaches that. Magic seem more stabilized atm.

It honestly just makes me laugh that everytime something like this comes up the Magic guys are always undervalued/not picked while people give slight props. This is not to say that the Magic young guys are for sure better than anybody or have guaranteed potential but it always makes me laugh and realize just how “hated/disliked/or maybe just unwatched” Orlando is.

I distinctly remember a Paolo vs Chet debate (very recent), Paolo vs a Jalen Williams (from OKC all nba 1st team), or a Giddey vs Franz, or even a Kuminga vs Franz, or a Suggs vs Moody, or a Paolo vs Cade, or a Franz/Paolo vs Scottie(this is the years before not this one), or a Suggs/Franz vs Herb (people were literally arguing that Franz didnt deserve to be ALL NBA first team despite averaging similar points to all the other 1st team members and Franz was the Magic best player and most guarded and was the most efficient of the rooks). There are more that I cant remember right now. These debates all have happened in the last few years and all of the above usually have the other guy (not the Magic player) winning the majority of online(here and on twitter for me) votes.

This is not to say the Magic players never get props or never win polls or these matchups but I have absolutely seen more washes for the other side than the Magic players and the ones the Magic guys win usually are close/ even in polling with somebody else. Its just funny to me. Franz is only now getting props after getting his national team bronze 2 years ago and gold this year. It took him eliminating the USA prospect filled squad to finally get any recognition but his other class members were always getting attention. Never forget that before this year ESPN did not rank Franz in their last years top 100 list, and CBS and other “reputable sports papers” listed Franz at the highest in the 90s but most did not have him listed at all, while all of them had Scottie, Mobley, Cade in the top 30s or even 20s. Green, Giddey, and Herb were also listed higher than Franz in most of those lists.

Paolo barely got media coverage despite a historic rookie year and it got overreported his slump, compare that to Greens and Cade slumps the first half of their rookie year in which they were still getting heavy media coverage on positive spins and somehow eclipsed Franz who was consistently good whole season despite an injured squad around him. Compare that to the negative press Suggs got his rookie year. Nobody even talked about how historic Suggs defense was his rookie year(and his terrible offense was the only report) and somehow Herb and Mobley got all the defensive attention despite Suggs numbers literally putting him in a top 3 defensive guard race and top 10 defender in the entire NBA his rookie year (I wrote about this if anybody wants to read I can link). This is not to say those guys weren’t talked about negatively but they definitely did not get the negative press Magic guys got, and once they were good their press were pretty ridiculous and sometimes straight up exaggerated. Maybe I am just being a biased fan and coverage across the board is similar but I do at least honestly see that no matter the context when a debate comes around young prospects Magic guys always fall under in a 1v1 but as a collective they get some props but never individually. Its very weird to me if I am being honest.

Again this is not saying Orlando is for sure better but majority of responses here say Sengun best on board, I disagree personally but I was one of the few guys that draft that actually wanted Sengun #1 prio. I truly did, my draft board was Sengun #1 and maybe Cade/Green #2. Once Scottie moved up and our number was decided and Sengun seemed to not be rising I wanted Scottie/Sengun that draft. I actually didn’t know much about Franz and didnt want Jalen (now I am all for him). This is just a bit on me since this may seem like a Magic fan bias which I am sure part of that is here but I was always very high on Sengun much more than Cade and Green and anybody else. I do prefer Magic core over Houston and I do think Franz and Paolo will be better or at least equal to Sengun when all is said and done but I can see Sengun making AS teams very early since East bigs are pretty stacked compared to West (and West pretty stacked in guards). Sengun can make many AS’s since to me competition for a spot is a bit lower than East for the same positions but skill wise I do not think he is better than Franz and Paolo or will be later.

Also I do think there is a chance that Suggs becomes the best on all boards, guy has complete x factor in my eyes.

Sengun is probably the most special among the players on this list. This is not always a good thing, you have to build the right team around Sengun type players. If you can build it, it can make you the one of best teams in the NBA.
Banchero would clearly make all 30 teams in the NBA a much better team. A complete package.
I think suggs still has great potential. I don’t know, i just love him. I think Whitemore’s potential is no less than these three.
